✈️ Urgent Update! Thai Airways Changes Baggage Policy from "Weight" to "Piece Concept" (Effective March 2026)

by bbag shop 19 Aug 2026 0 comments

Attention all travelers! Thai Airways has announced a significant change to its checked baggage policy, moving from the traditional "Weight Concept" to a "Piece Concept," aligning with international standards.

Who does this affect, when does it start, and how many bags can we check in? bbag has summarized the key points for you. Check it out before packing for your next trip!

📅 When Does It Start?

This new policy applies to tickets issued and travel commencing as follows:

  • Ticket Issuance/Sales Date: From November 25, 2025, onwards.

  • Travel Commencement Date: From March 02, 2026, onwards.

If you're booking tickets around this time for travel next year, be sure to review these new rules!

🌏 1. International Sectors

The new policy clearly defines baggage allowances by cabin class, specifying both the number of pieces and the weight per piece.

Note: Infants not occupying a seat are entitled to 1 piece, with the weight allowance corresponding to the accompanying passenger's cabin class.

🇹🇭 2. Domestic Sectors

For domestic flights, it's simple: "1 piece per passenger" across all cabin classes, with differing weight limits.

  • Royal Silk Class: 1 Piece (32 kg)

  • Economy Class (All types): 1 Piece (23 kg)

⚠️ Critical Rule: Baggage Dimensions!

This is especially important for bbag customers! With the Piece Concept, not only weight but also "baggage dimensions" are strictly enforced.

👉 Each piece must have total linear dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 158 cm (62 inches).

bbag's Takeaway: The shift to the "Piece Concept" means you can no longer combine the weight of multiple bags as before. If your allowance is 1 piece at 23 kg, even if you have two small bags whose combined weight is less than 23 kg, you might not be able to check the second bag for free (excess baggage fees would apply for the second piece).

Tips: Having a travel bag that is "lightweight" yet "spacious" and adheres to the "standard dimensions (not exceeding 158 cm)" is crucial in this new era. This ensures you can utilize your 23 or 32 kg allowance per bag to its fullest!

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
